Went to order cab a mount bushing kit for a 79 f150 reg cab 4x4 . The question came up as to the difference between cab mount bushing kit for 4wd vs 2wd.
The people I was going to order it from didn't know the difference. But, apparently there is a difference in the kit not to mention the fact that the 4wd kit is almost
100.00 more. Was wondering as well , if the preference is for rubber bushings or poly bushings. The body shop guys are recommending using the rubber if
I can get them. while im at it , who has the best deal on a kit for 4wd 79 ?
1975/79 F100/350 Regular & F250/350 Crew Cab front and rear body mounting parts (upper & lower rubber absorbers & hardware) are the same. 2WD or 4WD makes no difference.
1978/79 F100/350 Regular/Super/Crew Cab front cab mounts (D8TZ-5077-A R/L same) are the same, 2WD or 4WD makes no difference.
Aftermarket parts should not be any different, but these parts most likely do not match the originals. The parts I've seen are "universal fitz-alls."
Yup, like above I bought mine aftermarket. If I recall I got them from LMC truck. That were good quality, but buy the new bushings too because you will surely destroy them getting the old rubber off.
the bolts backed out fine. I was surprised they didn't break. problem like gijazbo said, the bushings just spin and I suspect they break in pieces if we try
to break them loose.
so the amazon / energy kit has everything in it ?
Check out energy suspension website and look up your application. See which kit you want and search for that number on Amazon or eBay. The pictures of the kits are pretty good about showing what is included.
My master kit included:
C bushings
Core support bushings
Cab mount bushings
Track bar bushings
Radius arm bushings
Rear leaf spring bushings
Tie rod end caps (didn't use)
and some hardware (inserts and shims/washers) I think that was all.
If some of those bushings don't need to be replaced, you can kinda mix and match by selecting a different kit.

Bill,
according to carpenter - there is a difference - they don't have a 4wd kit which makes no sense if ford says 4wd and 2wd are the same. They (carpenter)
suggest that the difference is the length of the bolt ? any ideas on that ?
Thanks

Absorbers are the rubber cushions. Do you see 4WD anywhere?
