I now one of the responsibilities of the engine light is for sensors.
I also heard that it keeps an eye on fluid levels as well.
Are there any other uses for it?
Also on my 96 Ranger 2.3L 5sp, I have a check guage light to. I'm guessing since I have this, that my engine light would strictly be for the sensors unless there are more uses for it that I'm not aware of.
Check Engine does not monitor fluid levels. It monitors emission control and powertrain control devices. The check guage light monitors for guages that are out of normal range.. IE low oil pressure, low fuel, etc.
