dim dash lights

I've got a 85 f150 and the dash lights are real dim. I pulled the bezel and cleaned the lens and no go, still dim. A buddy told me that it was the reastat in the switc was dirty and to clean it. How do I get the switch out to clean it?

Pull the bezel that is around your insturments(4 Screws).
Reach your hand up under the dash where your light switch is, feel on top of the light switch, there is a small button in the middle. Push down on it while pulling on the light ****, it'll come out of the switch(might have to try a couple times). Once the **** assembly is out , take off the retaining nut. the switch assembly will come out of the dash.
On the bottom of the switch you will see the reastat coil assembly. Clean with Electrical Contact Cleaner. You might want to use a piece of fine emery cloth between the coil assembly and the tang that rotates on the coil assembly.
Reassemble and try your lights. If still dim you are probably looking at a new switch( about 13.00 @ Checkers).
Good Luck!

Be sure to disconnect your battery before doing this....could cause a short...never know what lurks behind a faulty light switch...
