I'm trying to wrap up my build. I've got a 400 in the truck and I'm using the stock aircleaner. I got the aircleaner off the original motor in this truck which was a 460. So, I had to relocate the PCV to the passenger back and since I put an HEI distributor I had to add a 1" phenolic spacer so the air cleaner would clear the distributor. Now what I'm trying to figure out is what do I connect the PCV to. Base of carb? Also I've got one vacuum line that runs to the front of the cleaner intake (for the warm air diverter)to a plastic piece that looks like 2 connectors put together then to a metal piece under the cleaner, then comes out of that back to the second connector. From there, I have no idea where the rest of that loop goes. There is also a piece in the side of the air cleaner that has 2 male connectors that I have no idea where they go, but it seems like a filter or valve of sorts, but doesn't pick up intake vacuum that I can tell. I also would like to figure out where to get a new oil cap for stock valve covers. Mine is very loose and so I get a fair amount of oil that leaks around it. I found the Vacuum diagram in chiltons, but its drawn by an engineer and I have no idea what they call some of these parts. Thanks!
If your PCV has two hose connections, per a recent post the smaller upper hose goes to the carbon canister and the lower fatter hose goes to manifold vacuum.
If you do a search using some of the abbreviations from your vacuum diagram, there are several lists posted defining each abbreviation (like VDV=Vacuum Diverter Valve.) Don't have one handy since my emissions controls went away when I replaced manifolds.
If you are in Texas, maybe you should think about doing the same. Keep the carbon canister and PCV, run only essential vacuum lines ie: to brake booster or transmission, AC controls, distributor if needed, and scrap the rest of it.
You may just need the gasket under the valve cover breather. You can make your own if you can't find one, it's a simple flat ring.
Right now I only have 2 connected vacuum lines. One goes to vacuum advance and the other is for the AC/heat controls. I figured the PCV would connect to manifold, but it doesnt look as big as the connector at the base of the carb. Charcoal canister is gone. Just not sure what that metal thing is under the aircleaner and what it would connect to, but I know I need to connect somewhere in order to get the warm air diverter to open up.
