I bought my 2014 F250 gas new back in March 2014. Its a low mileage truck, currently has 33k. Im a motorcyclist primarily so the truck is for recreation and bad weather. Last march i had the dealer do the power steering and brake fluid cause i got lazy. They mentioned the anti_freeze but it tested good. It seems somewhere ive read the change interval is 100k but no mention of time. Anyone have a shop manual handy?
There is a time component and it's not just miles. My 2019 calls for 105k miles or 6 years whichever is first. After that, it's every 45k miles or 3 years. With your average per year miles, if you go by miles alone, you are looking at somewhere in the range of 15 years. That's too long to go without changing coolant. May want to consult your manual (available online at the Ford Owners site if you don't have it anymore). Those two asterisks** refer to the sub-note where you will see the time requirements.
Per the Ford recommended chart.. I don't think going 150,000 miles between fluid changes on the trans is going to work for me... especially when towing for part of those miles. 50,000 is more likely for me..
It’s hard to believe the ATF interval doesn’t increase under their “Special Operating Conditions”. My old 5r110 in my 6.0 was also 150,000 for ATF but that dropped to every 30,000 when the primary use was towing/hauling. I guess I’ll trust that Mercon LV is the best synthetic fluid ever and that the 6r100 is the cleanest transmission ever!
On my '11 F350 6.2 I changed the tranny oil, filter at 150k miles. Had flogged on that truck the whole time towing. The 6R140 is amazing. Oil looked and smelled great, not much debris in the bottom of the pan. I am a believer. Made sure when I got my '18 to go F350 to get same tranny.
BTW the new DY (Dew Yellow) coolant in the late '19 and '20 year models will go 200K miles. I would flush the heck out of the coolant on an orange coolant truck and install the DY coolant. BTW, you can only buy the new coolant from Ford. But worth it....
