Alright, went in and switched it to this one for $320, https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...r+motor&pos=18

Waiting an extra day for it and its a bit pricier, but sounds like its worth it from what y'all are saying and the other threads I've read.

Your pricing must be different than mine. My store shows it for much more $$

You're probably about the same as normal here, but the O'Reilly's manager here was willing to price match the lowest Rock Auto Motorcraft down to employee pricing-- mostly because I think he has a soft spot for the OBS trucks

Surprises found in the flywheel opening

Well I just pulled off the wrap I put around the opening where I pulled the original starter to start putting the new one in, and I found some surprised resting in the opening there by the flywheel. A handful of metal chunks, rubber bits (looks like from gasket), and plastic chunks. I took a pic of the three biggest chunks of each bit, most of it is the size of marbles or smaller. Any ideas where this might be from? I don't want to put a new starter in just to run it and damage my engine badly with all this FOD in there.

New starter is in! Starts up quite nicely! Thanks again for all the advice. If I can ask one more question from y'all on this topic for my own sanity-- are there any indications I should look out for to make sure the motor disengages properly?
