Hello group, was recommended to touch bases. We have a 99 Ford F-350 2WD Super Duty dually. Low gears. We currently use to haul travel trailer. At 65 mph rpm at 2200. Would like to know what gear ratio is better for fuel and rpm, than towing power. The tag on side door has tr 6 if that helps and we have a zf6. All recommendations would be helpful.
The folks that know about this kind of thing don't usually frequent the "New Member Introductions" forum. You might might want to post in "1999 to 2016 Super Duty" to get some answers flowing. When you do, it would help to know what kind of engine you have and how big and heavy your trailer is.

‘Welcome to FTE.
Im assuming you have the 7.3L. There should be a tag on the rear diff that should have numbers on it. You’ll most likely see 3.73 or 4.10 with a L or LS for limited slip. Considering you have a 2wd and a ZF6 you’re already set up perfectly for fuel assuming you mean mpg and rpm. The 7.3L can run all day long in the 2300-2800 rpm range without doing any damage. The lower gearing again assuming you have 4.10’s will only help you from a towing POV. There’s other things you can do to increase the efficiency of your engine.
I have a 99 F350 2wd Dually (7.3L) auto, I regeared from the 3.73 to 4.10’s and added a Truetrac, my towing rpm’s only increased around 200 and I lost maybe 1-2 mpg. However, I would never go back to the 3.73’s for a tow rig!
I have an '02 F350/4x/DRW/CC/Auto/4.10's, I avg. 11-12 towing, 13-15 empty, I have a Hypertech programmer, it increased Tq, mileage and the fun factor, I also have cone filter and 4" turbo down, no muffler.
My Excursion 4x, same set-up exactly but with 3.73's is only about 2-3 mpg better towing and empty. Not worth the cost to re-gear to me... if ya wan't good mileage, buy a 1978 Fiesta! we had a few of those and they got 35-40 all day long, and were fun as hell too!
