Just had my 00 psd, 6spd, 112,000 miles, in for a checkup. came out shining with the exception of a leaky front left shock. however, i happened to mention to the tech that on occasion when i shift from 1st to 2nd the trans grinds a bit....like it doesn't want to go in gear. i thought maybe it was the clutch, but he said the clutch is fine. he said it may be a transmission syncronizer going bad. anybody have this problem? if so, how much does this repair typically cost? i'm expecting something of a large bill....being that they'll have to drop the tranny out and all that jazz. thanks in advance.
My 95 5-speed has had weak synchronizers for two years or so, due primarily to the factory clutch engineering. I am the only one who drives it until I get that fixed.
A local shop (NOT a chain) quoted me $500.00 to replace the synchronizer rings (he has a supplier who will sell just the rings, not the entire synchronizers) if I brought him the transmission out of the truck., $600.00 if he pulled the tranny.
Of course, this info is for the 5 speed - I am not sure what the 6 speeds would cost but it does give you a starting point.
