Have been working on buying these 2 trucks for a few yrs. now . Recently revisited them & took some pics . Located far from me In N. Wis. The F-1 has sunk farther in the ground . . Would part them out if purchased . He thinks he has gold .I think not so much . Most of the body panels are shot . Maybe salvage the hoods , lower fenders , upper valance panels ,bumpers , grilles , trim , doors , cabs , Fenton intake & carbs , interior pieces . Have not moved since 1978. Your opinions on a bundled purchase please . Thanks , Denny
Nothing says quality quite like 1970's wood paneling for a door panel! My truck used to have similar material as a headliner. What were they thinking?!?
Are you thinking of hauling them all the way back to FL to tear them apart? I can't believe that would pay off. The only things I see worthwhile are trim pieces, "maybe" the front bumper with overriders. You could pull them off and not have to trailer anything.
-- dash trim (ashtray and dispatch box stainless)
-- the OHV 6-cyl emblem on the hood
-- hood spears
-- the Fenton manifold w/ alternator and carbs (tho by the time that's cleaned up, not a big moneymaker)
All that would fit in the trunk of a car, I'd offer him a hundred at most, if you're taking it off.
You have asked the question that so many of us have to deal with, how much is it worth...If the trucks are not repairable then they're not worth much. That said, the little bits and pieces can be worth something. Of course, most of the little bits and pieces are reproduced and available economically, so you can't expect to make a lot of money off of it. If the owner feels like he has gold, then forget it. The fact that you have been persistent with him has probably reinforced his illusion that they're worth a lot. These things are more rare up north because of rust, so even a parts vehicle seems more valuable than it really is. The appeal of seeing trucks like this is that you figure you can get them cheap and either work on them, or part them out, or part one out for the other truck. This all comes apart if the owner doesn't want to sell them cheap. Couple with this that neither of them can be considered a "roller" as they probably don't roll and likely have 8 flat tires between them. Then you have to get a two car hauler and drag them wherever you need to bring them. A lot of work and possibly a lot of money if you're out of state. if the frames are rotten, they might not even make it up to the trailer. Both motors are likely scrap metal, though I do like the twin carb setup on that flathead.
The dashboards seem in tact, though one has wood panel covering something. Both steering wheels aren't bad, but they're cracked. The trim pieces are definitely good. Aside from that, you can get all of it from Mac's or LMC. I guess the real answer to the question is if he gave them to you for free, how much time, effort and money would it take to get them home, then what will/can you do with them? How much "ahead" would you be at that point with selling the parts or assembling one driveable truck that you might be able to sell, and how much would that likely fetch? Subtract your expenses to get the thing there. That's how much its worth to you. Also, do you have a place to put them that won't be an issue, and an immediate plan to start on them?
For me, they're only worth a few hundred bucks because those trim pieces are worth that. It would take many thousands to get one of them rolling, though it might be a fun project for someone who already has a drive train kicking around. And they'd be in my way where I live, so I'd have to deal with them immediately. Everyone is different!
I see at least 2 doors that look good. And the 2 doors we don't see would be about the same I assume. If they're not repairable then they can be sold for wall art. I've sold 2 bad doors at Carlisle for wall art in the last two years.
Both grilles look good in the pictures. Again if they are too bad they can be sold as well art in someone's man cave or garage.
Both hoods look usable and that light duty grille guard, if usable, could be valuable. And those 6 cylinder emblems are rare.
Ross , my brothers have 10 acres where the old saw mill stood , 2 large shops & plenty of room only 8 mi. away . No thoughts of dragging them back to Fla. Take them to the brothers place, disassemble & parts them out .
The F-2 has a title. His Mom is looking for it .
His son ( age 60 ) passed away Oct 10 so did not want to bother him at his time of sorrow even though I was in town . . Will have brother contact him in a few months . .
He is not interested in parting them out . Tried that .
He was asking $1800.00
Would offer him a favorable & kind $700- $900
