I’m probably just bad at navigating this forum but I couldn’t find many specific things to check for a dash brake light other than what I’d already tried. I recently acquired an 08 F150 super crew. Newest ford I’ve ever owned by far. When I got it the previous owner mentioned the dash brake light coming on when he was messing with the rear brakes. He couldn’t be more specific for some reason. I’ve checked everything I could think of from checking the rear brakes, parking brake cables and sensor, even bled the brakes and tested the fluid level sensor. Nothing gets it off. I read a little about this being a common instrument cluster issue but before I get into that I’d like any suggestions on other things to check/ tests to do considering he admittedly was “messing” with the brakes when he noticed it had come on. It is worth mentioning the brakes seem spongy to me even now, my reason for bleeding them and checking the master for leaks (including internal). That being said I’ve driven a few fords in the 06-10 year range and for some reason quite a few of them feel a little spongy to me. Thanks in advance.
Have You checked the fuse box inside cab, front seat, passenger floor on the side of cab that door is on? Maybe a fuse is blown and the light is showing that there isn't a full connection in a certain brake system? Sorry for the clustered reply as I'm a . My headlights wouldn't come on and come to find out my 72 neighbor "borrowed" a 20 amp fuse for His John Deere haha drove me crazy until I found out what it was
There is a known issue with the parking brake light staying on/going on and off, due to a faulty plug assembly behind the cluster (not the cluster itself). Mine is like that-stays on 99% of the time now. I saw a you-tube video where a mechanic wiggled the plug to demonstrate...
Never heard of the fix. I replaced the sensor, checked all the brake parts connections, etc., before seeing the video.
I suppose you (or I) could cut out the plug (both sides) and splice in a new one.
It is an annoyance to be sure. I check my parking brake is released a lot more often than I would like!
The cluster would have to be sent out to get repaired. I have the same issue on mine. I did the pinpoint tests in the shop manual, both checked okay. The issue is in the cluster. If you Google it, you'll find places that will repair, but you have to send the gauge cluster to them.
I had a similar issue with my '04, and I assumed it was the "cluster problem" too. However, it turned out to be the sensor in the master cylinder. I replaced mine and viola, light went off and stayed off until I applied the parking brake. Before you go tearing out your cluster and shipping it off for a $250 repair, exhaust all of the other possibilities first, starting with the simplest (bad parking brake switch or loose connection).
