What a difference

What a difference the correct timing chain cover can make when putting a 292 from a car into a truck... (thanks Kevin!)

I did have one BIG scare while doing this job. Got it all back together and put 4 gallons of coolant/water mix in watching for leaks. Nothing was happening for a while and I was gathering my stuff to drain the oil out of the motor because it got some stuff in it while I had that timing chain cover off and was cleaning up the old gasket material. While I was behind the truck I heard something leaking onto the floor (truck was not running). I went back up front and looked underneath and saw coolant dripping back by the oil filter. I put a catch under it and went under on my creeper. I first thought I had left a petcock open after draining the block, but both were shut. The leak appeared to be coming from the the oil filter. I said “oh cr@p”, is all of the coolant running into the oil pan and over filling it? Once I thought about it, that did not make sense because it wasn’t leaking oil before. Come to find out the coolant connection on top of the intake where the heater hose connects was leaking, running down into the valley under the intake and found a path down to the oil filter. That was a bit of a scare... I tightened the hose clamp on that fitting and got it to stop, but I am pretty sure that when I get the motor up to temperature it will be leaking again. I noticed that fitting was in pretty bad shape with corrosion and seemed pretty thin when I had the hose off. I need to find one of those fittings and hope i can get the old one out of the intake to replace it.
