Can’t seem to figure out how to get my truck to show what gear it’s in. It’s a 2019 STX. I also thought I read that the STX doesn’t show which gear you’re in that’s only for the higher trims but I test drove an STX that did that.
Is there a way to turn this on or does the STX simply not have it?
The only time I had that happen was on my 2013 after a dealer oil change. Not sure how it happens but a bump here and there must be what causes it. Just hit the + button on the gear shift to get the display back. It should stay on.
It should stay on... or at least it does on mine.
You may be bumping the switch.
I’ll have to test it out tomorrow. I’ve honestly never touched the +/- on the gear shift yet. The 10 speed seems to keep it where I want. I did look through the settings thinking that’s how I could get it to display but there was no option.

I find mine off occasionally.
I guess I am bumping it when I shift to park or drive.
I routinely use the +/- to lock out the upper gears when I'm coming down the mountain.
When we first got the truck, I used the +/- in M-mode to sorta-kinda manually shift. That got tiresome, my thumb wasn't used to all that exercise.
Lately, I have been putting the shifter into tow/haul mode for going up & down the mountain. The tranny doesn't do a half-bad job of it. It is a bit more aggressive than I am in selecting gears, but mostly OK.
That drove me crazy on my 17 and no one seemed to know why it occurred. It is operator error. I had a tendency to cup the shifter when I would pull it out of park and deactivate the display. I had to modify how I would grab the shifter and now it only happens about once a month.
I’m happy it stays on. I also learned I have pre collision braking. Someone pulled out in front of me the other day and i was going to coast up to them but the truck wasn’t happy about that and started to brake. I was probably 3-4 car lengths away when it started braking.
I've got a '19 STX and had a similar response when one day my gear indicator was suddenly gone. It took me a few days, but eventually remember hitting the + / - button on the shifter and all of a sudden it was back! I know others have already posted it, but I was seriously confused as to where it went and how to get it back. I was digging through all the menus in the display trying to figure out where it was hidden and how it turned off to begin with. Now that I know, no big deal. It does seem strange that it is so easy to turn on and off.
The other thing that got me with the STX is the button to the right of the dome light in the front seat area. It has an image of a car door. When I first brought the truck home, my wife and I couldn't figure out for the life of us what that button did. I searched through the manual and still couldn't find that particular icon listed anywhere. Turns out that button is overrides the dome light so if you open the doors the interior lighting doesn't come on. That would be nice for having young kids. I can't tell you how many times the kids would wake up when they were younger because the dome lights would come on when you open the door. I guess this is there to help get your kids in the house and put to bed without waking them up.
I use my trans button all the time. If I'm not going on the freeway I select 7.(high gear 1-1 in the trans) First 3-5 miles in the morning I select either Tow or Sport, trans doesn't "hunt" as much as it once did after I select normal. I jumpered my auto start /stop right behind the button after watching a youtube. Some do a nice job telling... others ...well nuff' said.
