I am possibly rewiring a small utility trailer. The first time I did it I used a harbor freight harness and it worked at first, but now it seems like there is an intermittent open on the yellow wire/harness going to the left turn signal, the rest of the harness works properly. I think its in the harness/plug which I am swapping that out next and have already spent too much time on this frustrating issue. I tested it with a 12V source and it works then I test it again and it doesn't.
Either way, i am finding it may make sense to just rewire the small 4x8 utility trailer vs. spending a few hours messing with it to get nowhere. What brand of wiring do you recommend? After this issue, I don't mind paying more to know it is quality and will last.
I always run a white ground wire to each light, a little extra wire stops the frustration looking for a bad ground.
I had a boat trailer that would rust at the rear cross member every winter and break the circuit.
I ran the wheels off my old Northern folding 4X8 trailer, hauled more with it than my pick-up!
Flex loom and individual wires for me, cuz it’s readily available and easy to fix or mod. For lights, I normally use the grommet mount sealed beams or leds, they’re a little more spendy especially if you have to buy the mounts, but no crusty bulb sockets, they just work. If it’s intermittent, make sure it isn’t a crusty connection at the plug, it happens. I usually take the plug apart first and check back from there.
