2001 Explorer Driver's Seat

Hello all from soon to be snowy South Dakota! My 2001 Explorer needs a driver's side seat. Mine is worn out. What will work? Thanks!

Right back atcha from Snow laden Leduc Alberta...wanna know the weather in Alberta...just wait ten minutes! I dunno but we seem to get everything right on top of everything else. I have ice then snow on top of that here in October and Leaves on top of that last few days..like three ..five seasons all at once! I think mother natures completely confused...at least locally. Maybe its Aurora cannabis down the road. Air pollution and all that.. In answer to your question I cant say what other models may work but I have seen quite a lot here on Kijiji for Explorers, parts most every day. Extremely, obvious suggestion... but perhaps the most popular local used site in your area may have something?

Typically, Explorer and Ranger bucket seats will physically fit. However, the fabric may not match. What I do is go to the u-pull-it yards and find a seat, remove it from the donor and see if it will fit on the same year Explorer that I have. There was wide physical interchangeability with other models, but sometimes you would have to tap some of the holes on the seat base. There are two three holes at each bolt location, but usually only one is tapped. I've put Explorer or Ranger bucket seats in my Aerostar. Where things can get difficult is when seats have air bags or power adjustment or if the seat belt with the latch bolts to the floor instead of the seat frame. Also, if I remember correctly, the 2 door sport and the Sport Trac have different seat bases than the regular Explorer, starting about 2001 in those models.

Go to https://www.hollanderparts.com/ and do a little research. Plug in your make/model/year and the results will include models and years where the seats will interchange. However, it only appears to work if the exact same seat is used in different models, which is often not the case as there are differences in the material/pattern even if the same basic seat is used. Or the head rest might be different. Frequently, a seat from another model will physically fit, but the Hollander site won't tell you which ones.

If the material is good and the foam is bad, it's not too hard to remove the material and replace the foam.
