I have a 99 XLT SD SC with a build date of 1/98 with 6.8L, original 2V heads, bought it 12 years ago from a farmer who used it as a truck, not a grocery getter, and I still love it. She's always pulling a 20' 14k trailer and have 248,000 on it. All original, no spit plugs and changed them out once. Time consuming and expensive due to 10 plugs/coils, but not that tough. Pics in my album.
ZF5's which are a manual 5 speed transmission stopped early on in the Super Duty platform. They later went to the ZF6.
4R100's are a 4 speed automatic were used with the 7.3 diesel and 2V V10's.
5R110's were used behind the 6.0 Diesel, 3V V10 and 5.4 Engines.
@armedforcesracing the 5r110 is a great transmission, as previously mentioned in this thread you can update the pan and filter to the 08+ style.
First off I didn't give any miss information. The Ops last post led me to believe that he might have meant a ZF5 speed so I was correcting myself. Your post implies that I was deliberately providing bad information which I was not. I knew that the 5r110 came out in later year super duty's as well as the ZF6 I just was sure of the year. As far as the 5r110 transmission being a great trans I'm not sure I would go that far. Its better than the 4r100, but I still stand by my original post that if the OP buys this truck that a transmission rebuild my be in his future unless its already been done and he should factor this in to his decision. The 6r140 that come behind the 6.2L and the 6.7 is a far superior to the 5r110 and will last a lot longer before needing attention.
Thanks for the all the great tips and help on me making a decision on this truck. I wanted to let all of you know that I looked this truck over and test drove it and found it to be a really great truck but I came across a 2011 F350, 6.2, 4wd, with 98,000 miles on it and went that route instead.
One thing. My manual blend door has started going out. I'll need to change it. If you notice the AC is not as cold don't freak out and start jacking with the compressor, etc there is a blend door relearn that you can search for.
You can also slowly rotate hot back to cold and you should notice it getting cold.
The 2011 is a good pickup. My old man has a 2011 he bought brand new. He has no problems with it at all. He has maybe 45,000 miles on it. That is a sharp ride.
