Chirping noise.. cont.

So I'm here to ask.. has anyone ever had/seen/heard of an idler with bad bearings only making noise under certain circumstances? I mean I haven't.. I've never had one not make noise almost all the time. I'm still trying to narrow down the cause of my noise and before I go buy some parts I wanted to ask this. My truck only seems to chirp under a light load while under 45mph, or usually, but not always, cruising at 60+.

I'd take the belt off, turn it inside out and look for small particles/stones that may be lodged in the belt grooves. If the belt is getting old the ribs may be worn and you're not getting full contact to the pulleys. There are gauges available to check for belt wear. DAYCO® aWEARNESS Gauge . The belt tensioner may be getting weak. Some have an arrow embossed on the swing arm that shows it's alignment to the tensioners base mark. If it's out of range the belt is worn. I've had tensioners where there was so much dirt built up in the tension spring the arm wouldn't move much. I usually found this on vans. Probably because the engine compartment is so small dirt doesn't escape so well. With the belt off you can check the pulleys for wear in their grooves and bearing noise/condition by spinning by hand. Check the crank pulley to see if anything small is jammed in it's grooves. Hope this helps

I did not think about the tensioner being a probable cause. The belt it only about 8 months old and has no cracking or dryness so it should be fine. Thanks! I'll be pulling the tensioner as I know it's the OEM one.. cheap enough to replace anyway.
