How to manually regenerate

Okay guys, I’ve had Fords since 2003 but this is my first Diesel. Did a lot of looking online and finally found a truck that had almost all my options at a dealer 3 hours away. The one option I wanted was operator commanded regeneration. I’m a farmer and do a lot of short trips so I think this would benefit me. What do I have to buy and install to get manual regenerations as an option? Is it easy to do or do I need a technician to do it? Thanks.

This answer changes depending on the year and trim level of the truck.

I believe all trim levels on the 17+ trucks have the ability to do this from the factory but it is disabled by default. It can be enabled by the dealer or you can do it yourself with ForScan.

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge of the newer trucks will chime in.

Edit:

Thanks Dirthawg. Made an appointment at my dealer today and after some research on his computer he actually knew what the hell I was talking about. They’re going to charge me one hour labor. I think it’ll be worth it.
