Engine swaps
hey i am looking at swapping a 351 Windsor in to my 85 F150. Right now it is a 4 speed manual Strait 6. it is reliable but i need something more to make it up my drive way in the winter. plus i need a little fun on the weekends. so the obvious is to drop in a 351 but i want to see how easy it is so i dont get in to deep. thanks for the help

im not sure if it will line up with the bell housing for the 300 i6. if not a new bellhousing and definitely a new clutch , bigger radiator and motor mounts.. if you get a used or junkyard motor try to get all the pullys and brackets with it or youll need those too..if the i6 was fuel injected and u want to have it carberated now youl need a lower preassure fuel pump or a fuel pressure regulator..also ignition may be an issue depending on the engine you get.. sounds like a lot but not to bad.. good luck

the bellhousing is that same. you need both motor stands (the metal mounts). as long as you use the metal mounts for a 351w, everything will drop in fine. The alternator will fit on the 351w (with the 351w backets, of course), however, the V-groove in the double pulley is smaller on the 6. you can use the 351w windsor belt, or go to a place and get a belt the same length, but more narrow. the power steering should fit too.
btw, i've never seen a injected '85 6. could be possible though.
