My tailgate is fixable but it has more rust than the overall truck, and the truck deserves a good one.
Has anyone purchased the aftermarket tailgate from Dennis Carpenter?
If so, can they describe the quality?
Here's my truck.
Thank you
I bought my tailgate from CJ ford parts. It was 400 bucks and free shipping. I put the old one on the scales and was 40 lbs and the new one 20 lbs. It needed some work. I use mine as a truck, and took 1 inch and 1/8 thick walled pipe and put one in the bottom of the gate the whole length and one in the top of the gate the whole lenght to beef it up.Drilled a few holes on the top and bottom of the tailgate and welded them so pipe would not turn. Then I took 3/16 diamond plate and cut it to fit the inside bed of the tailgate when closed so i had a nice fit.and welded it to the tailgate. Before i welded it I coated the tailed gate and the diamond plate with two coats of primer then welded it . One heavy gate and it wont bend or twist now. Had to rework the handles. The inside of the tailgate where it says Ford is not square. When you install the handles there is a big gap between handle and the bed. I made a shim for front side and welded it to the latch and ground it smooth. Works for me. I did everything with shop tools and no shears to cut the diamond plate. I am sure there might be a better way .
