Scary Death Wobble

Has anyone with death wobble had it successfully fixed? My 17 has 25,000 miles on it and I had it in for death wobble like 1,000 miles ago and they replaced the steering stabilizer as per the TSB, but on Saturday I hit an expansion joint on the freeway and it started violently oscillating worse than it ever has in the past. I had to slow down to 30 mph in the middle of the freeway to get it to stop hopping all over the place. My passenger thought I had blown multiple tires and was terrified. It is truly unsafe and makes me nervous taking my family in the truck at all. Not a fan of owning a truck I don't feel safe driving.

I am going to take it to another dealer and have them inspect and go over the TSB, there is a step regarding the alignment that the TSB says not to do if you replace the stabilizer that the last dealer didn't do but my truck is very much still not fixed.

On a side note does anyone is the SLC area have a dealer/service writer they have good luck with? I have tried several dealers and they have all been a joke so far.

I too just had mine fixed at 2,500 miles, they just did the stabilizer and not the caster adjustment as stated in the TSB. I am reaching out to my service adviser today to see if they will do the rest of the fix.

I am probably going to pick up a FOX ATS stabilizer after they reinspect, I assume they will just adjust the caster. I really don't think I have any excessively worn steering/suspension components, the only off road action the truck sees in mild dirt roads, nothing intense. If something is already worn so much that they truck is dangerous to drive that is a big problem. I think there is an engineering problem with the steering geometry. An upgraded stabilizer is more of a band aid but if it makes the truck safer than whatever. I'll just make sure to swap the stock stabilizer back in if I take it for steering/suspension/death wobble complaints again so they can't blame it on my aftermarket parts.

Had the TSB completed (stabilizer only) on my truck last year at 22k miles....worked great until yesterday (44k miles) when I got the DW again so here I go back....luckily have extended warranty. I have a clunking noise at low speed over bumps also so am wondering if something is worn. Once its out I will do an adjustable track bar and Fox ATS.

Contact Nate Martin@ Larry H Miller Ford on 500 west, right by I-15. He is the primary Super Duty service advisor there and DRIVES A SUPERDUTY, so he gets it. He'll get you fixed up.

I tried all the dealers before (bountiful, west valley etc...) glad I found him.

On my initial trip to the dealer , they wanted to just replace the stabilizer . I informed them that I had already replaced it with better than oem , so all they did was rotate tires , check air pressures and balance and sent me on my way . I informed the advisor to go ahead and set up another appt. because it's going to happen again . I got an online survey after that visit and after a not so positive survey result , I got a call from the service manager asking me to bring the truck back in . This time they added the camber bushings and realigned and even washed and detailed it . DW hasn't happened again since .

So far it looks like new tires fixed my truck. Went with BFG KO2. Note they also did the alignment with the new tires so that could be part of it. Prior to the tires they changed the track bar and track bar ball joint and that didn't fix it.

Im interested in how your trucks felt leading up to the DW events. I have a '19 250 with 20s and snow plow prep. I have 6600 miles so far and no DW. BUT... I do get a good amount of bump steer over minor road irregularities. And I have on 3 occasions hit kind of bigger bumps... one was a 2 inch depressed man hole that I could not miss and the other was a bunch of potholes. The last is a dip on my way to work that is a longitudinal depression across the lane maybe 2 inches deep by 6 or 8 wide. In each of these first 2 incidents the truck went violently sideways over the bumps. The one on the way to work I can hit every day and play with it for reference... although it does not make the truck jump sideways it bump steers pretty hard to the left. Each of the other times it went left as well although I cant say which tire hit the potholes the manhole was the left side.... I am noticing now that all the bump steer feed back is pulling left.
Truck tracks straight. Truck runs straight with hands off the wheel even under braking. Truck rides really nice but for what I think is excessive bump steer always to the left.
So I read all these DW threads with great interest to see what others were feeling before the DW events took place because Im driving in anticipation of having it happen at any time...

I have 60,000 miles on my '17 250 and never experienced DW but the bump steer is significant. I think it's just a combination of hard tires, stiff suspension and light rear end.
