Fire extinguisher options

I'm looking at investing in a quality fire extinguisher for my 82 flareside but curious what others are using or recommend.

I'm currently looking at the H3R Performance B,C extinguishers with the halton gas since it's not corrosive like the dry powder. But there are a few different sizes.

I was looking at the 2.5 lb one but then was eyeing the 5lb one as I might do better with the 5 lb if I try to put out a wood fire which this isnt for but with a wood bed I dont want to get the corrosive stuff. I've seen how hard it is to clean up.

The dry chemical versions are great, fairly easy to use for the most part and have been with us for many, many years. I do have a 5 pounder that's near its discard cannot be refilled again age so will get a newer one in a while. In the meantime I've become acquainted with a completely new type of extinguisher, probably very well suited to vehicle fires.

Give this outfit a loo-see, maybe something there you can use: https://elementfire.com/

Thanks I will check them out. I am trying to find something that is non corrosive and doesn't require clean up the Haltron I gas seems to be the go to for automotive applications. Ive used the dry chemical version before and I had problems with electrical connectors even after clean up they started corroding on me.

I was looking at H3R but they only have three sizes that I might be able to fit behind my seat in the truck, the 2.5lb version, the 5lb version, and then they have an 11lb version that might be border line but this one is the smallest one they offer with a hose in haltron I gas.

~Update~

Wow I think I will go with that. I see Jay Leno covered it and 50 second use time for $80 that has no service requirements and no expiration date. Jesus I could buy two 50 second sticks and two magnetic holders and still come out cheaper than the 5lb Haltron I bottle that costs $280 and have way more use time while taking up less space.

Halon is great but as you're discovering quite expensive---while what we're trying to save is usually many, many times that cost its still quite a shock to shell out $280 for that type extinguisher.

I have two of the Elements already installed in my E-Series---using a reusable clamp called Quick Fist

they're tucked into the front door lower side pockets for quick access. I think the Element's are a nice additional fire fighting tool---hope I never have to find out just how effective they are.

i have been using halon extinguishes for over 30 years.
that element stick is interesting. it appears to be a potassium nitrate generator that smothers the fire by eliminating oxygen like the halon does.

Fire extanguished?

I turned mine into my air horns air tank the charge gauge removed and a 3/8 barbed adapter and the fill port was created then used the discharge hose nozzle for my air line to the horn and the fire extinguisher handle/valve works perfectly for a couple full release blasts of air😁💥🙈

Now that's "interesting"!

Something new on the horizon is Blazecut fire suppression system---VERY cool. Here's a YouTube demonstration of one is action and while its not shown in an automotive situation how it operates and the aftermath of deployment is fascinating--have a peek:

There are automotive-related videos of the Blazecut in action but the only reason I posted this one is given the sealed transparent case where it was deployed would best show how it works and if any residue is left behind. I don't know a lot about 3D printers but assume they're somewhat more delicate and sensitive to dust & other debris so showing the Blazecut working there would be a good demonstration.

Then again if I ever acquire an ANET printer I'll know what to expect.

I've built and sold many Custom ANET printers back in the day when the kits were only $50.00 and Free shipping ... good printers when done right but loose connections on the control board was a source for them to catch fire and burn your house down when left unattended ... as you notice in your video the fire started on the LH side where the control board is located.
3D printing can be an Addictive Hobby.
I do quite a bit of 3D printing and other CNC processes...... well, I wasn't trying to take away from the fire extinguisher topic
