I fell in love with these old Ford trucks at the age of 15. My family was neither rich not poor but had to "make do" with a lot of second hand items. Long story short, my dad gave me the old 1967 Mercury farm truck and I started to learn to fix a few things. It was the beginning of many skills that come in pretty handy today. I am now in my 50's. Several men with good hearts were kind enough to donate their time or good used parts to me to help me get closer to my goal of getting the old truck on the road.
Like yourself, I also don't enjoy the craigslist experience due to some bad actions by people that frequent those sites. Since $50 might be the scrap value of the bed then you may want to think about paying it forward and giving it to a younger enthusiast who isn't so flush with money or post it for free if getting rid of it truly is your objective. I personally don't like to see good useable parts go for scrap when there are people who want to use them. There are new young enthusiasts in every area who can use a bit of help. I also don't have much time to spare and can make more money at my job in a few hours than I would fooling around with selling most old parts. How long does it take to post an ad with a low price or "free"--must be gone by Tuesday?
It's just a sales tactic guys. You see this on craigslist fairly often. Ye ole "Ima gonna scrap it" line. Usually used when someone thinks they have something rare. Now you are suppose to run to rescue with wallet in hand.

LOL, no sales tactic. I will MUCH rather scrap it for $25 than sell it and have to wait for some ******* for $1000
You can take that anyway you want

Some day I'll be cool enough to turn my nose up at $500 free bucks lol
