hi,
i just got an explorer from a friend (was leaving the country)
I am trying to figure out how to configure the keyless entry pad. I'm not familiar with these...he didn't give me the combination so I am not even sure what it is. Is there anyway to reset it and to set the numbers that i want? If anyone knows this, can they please tell me step by step. Thanks. Would I be needing the remote for the car (dont' have that either and would it be programmable?) thanks...appreciate it.
I would like to know also I have a 99 and the dealer didnt give us the code. It cost me plenty the other day I was out of town and my 8 yr old locked the keys in it.
Same thing with my 1994. I got two new remotes from ebay. I also got a code program from Ebay also. Programmed new remotes and they work great. You should be able to do the same with the newer year Explorers.
The factory code is on the control module located in the jack area, just in front of the jack. The module will have a sticker on it with the five digit code. You will likely need a flashlight. You need this code to use the keypad. If you have the code you can also set your on five digit code. The remotes can be programmed without the code. Like 84ford said Ebay is a good source. Make sure you get the correct remote for the year of your vehicle. Most come with instructions and the instructions are also on this forum. Try searching for the instructions here. Basically, you turn the key off a number of times (5 to 8 depending on the year of your Ex) until the doors lock/unlock, leave the key on and push any button on your remotes. Turn the key off and the locks should lock/unlock to confirm. Also, instructions for setting the remotes and using the keypad are in the owners manual.
I was able to find my code on the module in the jack rack however I had to remove a bolt and bend the module around ut it was there and saved $35 at the dealer. Oh yeeah I ened up giving a little blood for it but works (sharp metal)
