one morning b4 school i was lettin my truck warm up for a few mins and i had the heater on high to warm up the cab a little too. when i came back outside and got in my truck i switched the blower motor switch from high to low and then everything shut off and i heard the vacum hoses "depressurize" if u wanna call it that. then it smelt like somethin fried. when i got home from school i took the dash out and took out that control panel and i looked on the back of the blower motor switch and it had deffenitilly fried. so i thought i had found the prob, but thats what i get for thinkin i guess lol. so the next day i put on a new switch and still nothing, the fuse is fine and im gettin power to everything else cept for that switch, but w/o the switch then u cant have ne air at all, so i was hoping one of u smart fellows could put in ur 2 cents and maybe tell me what could be wrong or a way to diagnos the problem.
yea...the only problem is is that in order for me to get to the blower motor i have to take the whole black box assembly (i cant remember what its called but if u have a/c then it sits in the corner on the firewall on the passanger side) and i dont kno if im getting in over my head. dont get me wrong ive done ALL the work on my truck my self and its never been in a shop since ive had it but this is also my way of getting around so i have no other car to get to school and the busses dont run out here. but im getting off topic, what im tryin to say is that i dont wanna think its gonna be an easy thing to take that box apart and then theres more parts or more stuff than u thought, i think we all know what im talkin about. so if ne one has takin apart that box and it really isnt much then tell me or tell me otherwise
That is why you start tracing thru the circuit from the fuse box out with the test light. I have even seen the connections in the fuse box fail b4 so don't assume anything.
i would say check out the selector switch ..the one that switches from the off to ac and heat and defroster ..it could have melt that also ..... i had that problem with mine you can try the blower on and then wiggle the selector switch and see if you get anything to happen usually you can hear it kind arc with the contacts..good luck keep us posted
ive messed with it for 4 hrs the day after it broke. but i do remember it arc'in. so if there is an arc what else could i do. im sure yall need more details so ask as many questions as u need thanks and i will keep u posted
What year is the truck? Some years have a Relay that is mounted on the bottom of the dash just below the glove box, It has a plug with 3 wires running to it, Its kindof a small silver rectangular box. Grab a new one at AutoZone and try it. You can also unplug the Orange wire Under the hood that is right above the A/C unit. This wire is the HOT to the Blower motor, Check it with a test light before you unplug it but it can be jumped to the hot side of the battery to see if the motor is any good. I've had to run them that way in an emergency, Only thing is the fan will be running Full blast.
its a 76 f-150 4x4 with a 360. ya i saw an orange wire but it seems thicker than normal, almost like a large vacum line. thanks for the info on the relay ill look for it but i dont really remember seein ne thing like that under there. maybe its just the year of my truck.
oh and the truck does (dont work) have a/c, so theres that big black box on the passanger side firewall to deal with. i kno the trucks without a/c dont have that box and the heater motor is right there on the firewall and is really easy to get to cause its just held on with a few bolts.
