I was wondering if a F-350 or extended cab would have longer front coil springs than my F-250 reg. cab 2wd. I was going to put the 350 blocks in the back, but need something to level out the front. Thanks,
Ryan
Not sure about changing to a different factory spring......it's possible.....since it is true for 4x4 trucks gaining some height when switching to x-code springs. I just don't know much about the coils.
A spring with a higher spring rate will give you a harsher ride (spring rate is the amount of force it takes to compress a spring 1" and is expressed in lb/in)......maybe a higher spring load would give you more lift since spring load is the amount of weight it takes to compress a spring to a given height and it is measured in lbs.
You could have some custom coils made that would level out the front.
Thanks for all the help, I noticed jegs had some coil springs in all different lengths, would any of these be stout enough for a superduty? Thanks again Ryan
Higher rate springs will provide a small (maybe 2") lift. However, as was pointed out before, the ride will be somewhat more harsh. I doubt that any of the springs from Jegs would work on a Super Duty. But, you'll have to call them to be sure.
Is there not a 2WD lift kit available? That would be the best route to take if there is. You'll get some good progressive-rate springs that will lift the truck and help keep the same ride comfort.
I own an '03 2wd and finding a decent lift is somewhat difficult, if you e-mail me I'll give you the info I've found. Don't wanna make this post too long ... anyhow some of the players in the 2wd lift game include fabtech, pro comp, rcd, and camburg to name a few ... hope this helps
Some of the kit maufacturers for 2wd suspension lifts for late model SDs include Fabtech, Pro Comp, Camburg, and Doetsch.
As far as Doetsch goes I haven't heard too much about them. Nor have I seen one of their lifts, so if anyone has info, please share the wealth. I do know that they make a 6” kit for 99up SDs.
Fabtech also makes a 6” kit for 2wd, but a common problem I’ve heard about is the coils sagging under the weight of the PSD or v10. Their kit is actually rated for the v10, but I’ve heard of several PSD owners using the kit on their rigs, and trimming as needed. If you don’t wanna hack up your truck, an option is to use the Pro Comp coils which are rated for the PSD, along with your Fabtech kit. Seems like a viable option.
Pro Comp also makes a 6” lift for SDs. A common problem I’ve heard about with this kit is the radius arms could be better (not harpin on the kit). So another option is to use the fabtech radius arms with the Pro Comp. This also solves the weight issue of the PSD/v10 and provides a solid kit.
Also for owners with access to Southern California, Camburg Engineering in Huntington Beach is an option, their staff must install their kits. They use bilstein shocks in their kits. I had the chance to ride/see one of the kits. Looked like they did their homework. Ride was smooth, I really liked this kit, over the others I’d seen (I’m not bashing anyone’s setup, just making an observation and stating my opinion). Camburg also custom manufactures kits, they built an 8” setup for Mike Duval of Off Road Unlimited. I spoke with a rep yesterday, who will get back to me on pricing.
I don’t believe Skyjacker makes a 2wd kit. Superlift makes a 3.5” for 97 and older (stops in late 80’s not sure … don’t quote me on this).
I also spoke with Donahoe Racing, Whiplash, and Full Throttle, none of them make or plan to make (from what I was told) a 2wd SD kit.
