I've had my 97 F-250 HD for about 10 months now and have been cleaning / restoring as much as possible during that time. I knew one of the cab mounts (drivers side) was shot, but I didn't consider just how bad it was until I went to get an Inspection sticker (it had a prior inspection sticker when purchased, so I figured I was OK). Long story short, it failed the inspection, and that was the only reason why. Before I think about getting it fixed, how much of a PITA is this going to cause me? I suspect a shop could fix this, but if it's going to be more of an effort finding a shop to do the work, the truck might just go up for sale - I completely lost interest after it failing inspection given how much work has already gone into this.
How difficult would this be for a knowledgeable shop? Anyone have this done and have a rough estimate of cost? I see Mill Supply sells replacements, but I'd imagine the cab has to be jacked up, possibly body bushings need to be replaced all around etc... Thank you for any input you may have.
Hi Guy, there is really no reason to get discouraged...…. even if you buy a new one, they all get issues that have to be fixed...….with the older ones, yeah, some months are better than others, but once you get all the grimlins out, they are as good as it gets!!!!!
I agree from the standpoint, that if you're going to be underneath it, might as well replace all the rubber body mounts while your there. and yes, you'll have to raise the cab up a few inches.....but, anybody with good skills can repair this in their garage. Bodyshops- I'm sure you can find one but it's like any other bodyshop...it takes a lot of searching to find a good one..
What shape is the floor in as the floor sits on top of the mount and I think there is a brace that runs from the mount back to help support the floor.
The only way to know what it will run is to hit a few shops. Check with them what it will run if you get the parts, mount(s), rubber bushings and maybe floor(s), or if they get them.
I can almost tell you it will not be cheap as it is all time labor to fix.
Good luck

Thanks for the feedback, and true about eventually anything I get will need work. I guess I started to vent only because this was the first time I actually drove it after 10 months only to be told it’s not road worthy.

Thanks Dave. I actually replaced the floor pan so that is in good shape, and I recently ordered the new cab mount from Mill Supply. I should have replaced everything while I had the access. Now the cab has been put back together, dynamat, new carpet etc.. so whomever I get to do the work will have to be careful how they go about fixing it. Thanks for the feedback.

The biggest think I see to be a PITA is the dynamat. That stuff I have never tried to pull back up but I can see it not coming up easy.
It will need to come up as the mount is welded to the floor pan as is that brace I posted about.
