Just bought a 2003 Escape XLS V6 with 225-70 -15 tires. Option was 235-70-16. Slightly bigger. Any difference in gear ratios in transmission, rear end, or ???
With the 15;s speedo is at least 5 miles under what the radar reads and the GPS speeds are. Then the 16's would be the better tire size? What about economy, power band, etc?
I don't imagine they'd change the drivetrain drastically for this difference, unless the taller wheel/tire combination came with a sporty package of some sort. If your car came with 235/70R16's then the speedometer should be about this far off with 225/70R15's on it:
If that is fairly accurate then you should be able to get it accurate by installing a set of 235/70R16's on it.
