I have an 88 full size Bronco with the 4.9.It was originally equipped with the pos Mazda 5 speed.I bought a 4 speed out of an 88 F150 custom to swap in.Everything seemed to be going fine until the parts place sent me my clutch. The 4.9 flywheel is drilled for either the 10 or 11 inch clutch.I wanted to go with the 11 inch clutch for better holding power, but I can't seem to get the right clutch for it.I am using the clutch master and the slave off the F150.Does anyone know of the part number for the correct clutch? They claim the first clutch they sent me fit the F150,but the throwout bearing looked like the one out of my truck.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.
Ok guys,we finally tracked down the correct clutch setup and ran into bigger problems.Trans went in with no problems, everything bolted together fine. Now the problem. The crossmember doesn't line up with the tranny. The tranny mount is about 1.5-2 inches away from the original(trans is too short).I am not worried about relocating the crossmember. What concerns me more is the front driveshaft is too long.Even with the truck on the lift I can't shrink the shaft short enough. Also the rear shaft is close to being too short.I took the clamps off the boot on the rear shaft to get rid of the wonderful clunk associated with the splined shaft. When re-assembled the rear piece of the shaft only engages the splines about an inch with the wheels hanging. Is there enough contact area that I don't have to worry about the 2 pieces coming apart? Is there any way for me to change the output shaft out of the mazda trany into the bw so I can use the mazda extension housing? Is there anyone out there who has done a swap like this?Any help?
Your going to have to get the front shaft shortened and the rear lengthed. No If ands or Buts. The rear tranny mount will need to be relocated. It has been a few months since I had my tranny out but there should be a few different holes in the frame
