Why Do Pickup Trucks Keep Getting Bigger?

Here is a link to the article that asks the question that is in this subject of this post: https://www.insidehook.com/article/v...getting-bigger

My initial response was, "Oh boo hoo, cry me a river."

Their main excuse is the introduction of the crew cab truck. I'll give them that, the crew cab does increase weight. But, trucks have been gaining cargo and trailer capacity over the same time period, perhaps in greater growth percentages than the size of the truck's themselves.

An interesting data point that could have made the article more interesting would have been if they pointed out that the 2017 Superduty series of trucks weighed LESS than the prior year.

The 2017+ makes my truck look like a 4x2. I parked a 2017 next to mine two years ago, I didn't think to take a picture of the bed rails. I like the weight, it makes towing more stable. Towing technology is great but there is only so much weight that can be removed and keep the stability. I'm fine with the size of trucks and since American's keep buying them, the manufactures will keep making them. F-series brings in cash by the truckload for Ford so they must be doing something "we" like.

That article lost me at the first paragraph. What's the point? There's bigger vehicles on the road today than pickup trucks. Ten wheel dumps and semi trucks have always been and will always be bigger than us.

Was there any mention of the big SUVs that the soccer and hockey moms drive that think they own the road because it's big? There's even some in our crowd that drive like @ss hats.

Maybe they don't realize that some people feel safer in a full size pickup, want to drive one and/or need to drive one. Not every one wants to drive a mini Cooper or small 4 door sedan and get ×× amount of mpg. Just saying.

I'm surprised they didn't start talking about AOC and the Green New Deal. Give me a freakin' break man. That's all I got.

I like driving a big vehicle. As long as I can afford to buy 'em, insure 'em, and feed 'em I always will. These Ford trucks are pretty large, but they're not obnoxious. The evolution of the truck cab has to be complete now, right? The Ram mega-cab is borderline obnoxious, but still functional. I don't see any need to make them bigger than the current generation though.

Cars back in the day used to be boats. Obviously because nobody cared about gas mileage because gas was plentiful and cheap. Those boats kept people at work, people were buying them and keeping the economy going.

The same now with full size pickups. People are working to make them and feeding their families. People are buying them to keep the economy going and because they want and need to own them. A lot of guys use these every day to put food on the table.

It's kind of becoming a **** measuring contest now with the full size truck market in regards to not only power ratings but for the size for the full size trucks. I've parked next to the 17+ Super Duties and they are taller. But people are buying them. Somebody is doing something right.

Even the soccer mom SUV's are much taller and wider than they were several years ago. Anyone driving a sedan in today's cities must feel the same as driving a smart car or mini cooper in a city full of compact cars and pickups.

Nice! I didn't even think of THAT! Always thought the 7.3 and 6.0 powered Excursions were badass! Even badder with a 6.7 though...

I know a few have done it, but I think a factory option would be awesome, although somewhat impractical, they'd be the ultimate hunting/camping/family wagon
