Just wanted to say .I have been lurking on the forums for a while and decided to register since I am about to buy a new 250. I have a few questions about buying a new truck.
1. Whats a good price for a 2004 F250 CC 4x4 Diesel?
2. What are dealer holdbacks?
3. What is A,B,X, plan pricing?
4. What is the best brand oil for a diesel?
5. Who makes the best oil filters?
6. And finally, just kidding guys Dont ya just love newbies?

BTW, I currently own a 96 F250 and 98 Expedition.Well,great forum guys I'll let you know how the new purchase works out.Gonna try and close a deal tommorow.

As far as oil and oil filters, go to Walmart, they carry 15W40 in Delo, Rotella and Mobil Super 1300. They also carry the Motorcraft FL 1995 filter. I prefer Delo but have used the others as well.

Welcome to FTE!! I too am Newbie and wished I'd learned of sight PRIOR to getting my first 'Real' truck. (just picked up an F250 last Monday).

Anywho... perhaps to answer the first few points, I can only compare to MY experience.

WHAT I GOT: MY03 F250 CC 4x4 Diesel (only diff is MY??) -- [pix of sticker and truck in gallery]

MSRP=$43060
INVOICE=$38009
X-plan=$37784
A-plan=$36187
B-plan= n/a
_____
fyi~
X-plan= Supplier or 'approved' discounted rate (friends/fam,etc).
A-plan= FORD DIRECT employee or close family discount
B-plan= B is Executive Fleet used car purchase program
_____

As you can see, X and Invoice are nearly identical... Just about ANYBODY can get X-plan, so don't ever expect to pay anything over INVOICE (if need, just fib to dealer that someone in family works for supplier to Ford, say TRW, Leer, JCI, Visteon, etc...)

A-plan is hard to get unless you're DIRECT at Ford or have GOOD inside connections.

INCENTIVES for MY03's were $4000 a couple weeks ago when I got mine (they may be even higher now... don't know). NOT sure about MY04 incentives.

If you're buying, yeah, go MY04, if leasing, go MY03 (RE: incentives and decent residual, 65%).... but I'd try to leverage the dealer to give break below INVOICE. Remember that YOU can always walk out that door and goto another dealer (man! do they ever hate that!). I went to 6 different dealers around Detroit before finding my final choice (largest thru-put dealer -- gave most for my trade-in, my only card).

KEEP IN MIND... for this SD F250 [and up]... this truck (for most part) has been out since what? 1998?? The tooling, etc... is probably mostly all paid for and so the PROFITS for this truck to Ford are HUGE!!! This should allow for more 'haggling' on your part. To my knowledge, it is not scheduled for makeover until MY07 (w/ slight refresh in MY05)... so... you should really be holding Good Hand of Cards w/ this vehicle.

(as for me... 2yr COP/RCLease, A-plan, zero down, NO negotiating, except TRADE-IN. simple. $460/mo)

as for the oil, etc... hell if I know... will probably just take to dealer to have done...

good luck!!

My understanding of the a-plan x-plan relationship is that the a-plan is employee price (as stated above) and the xplan price is 4% above that (at least that is what the dealer told me).

x-plan price saved me $500 off of invoice price on my truck.

Dealers are allotted a certian amount of $$$$ from the factory for vehicles they sell. This is the dealer holdback.

As far as a good price, I wouldn't pay anything over invoice. If the dealer you're talking to won't do invoice or less, go somewhere else.

OH!, just so you know, you don't need to apologize for being a newbie - everyone here just loves fresh meat!!!!

To get the A Plan you need to be a Ford employee or immediate family of an employee. The Ford employee you are related to would supply you with a authorization code that must be given to the dealership.

So WalMart sells the oil filter for the 6.0? I haven't done my weekly run to Wally's to "investigate"

UPDATE: Chickened out on buying a new 250. With my commercial plan it was around $37,500 before taxes.Just couldn't pull the trigger.Instead,I bought a used 2002 F250 CC 4x4 SWB PS with 30,000 miles. All I can say is........this truck is freakin bad to the bone!I absolutely love it and the powerstroke is the baddest motor I have ever had the pleasure of driving.Now the fun begins with lift kits and... no wait, 4'' downpipe..eerrr ..I mean power programmer This is gonna get ugly.
