I have a 2006 E350 cargo van. This summer I started having problems filling the fuel tank. It seems to fill the neck up with a 1/3 of a gallon and shut off. It will not accept fuel in a normal fashion. Anyone know of an easy cure? I doubt the vent line is plugged. Baffles in the tank messed up? Takes forever to fill! I wanted to check here first before taking into to Ford.
Most likely the vent line for the fuel tank filler hose is clogged causing your filling issue--we've seen this quite a few times in the past. The solution has run from trying to run a stiff wire through that line all the way up to replacing both lines. Some have dropped the fuel tank as the connection to the tank is on top and can be quite inaccessible.
A general search on this forum might give you a few good examples how this was repaired. I'm also attaching a TSB dealing with this issue however I have forgotten which years and types of Ford vehicles this applies---it should still be helpful none the less.
FWIW this condition seems to be caused by continually over-filling the tank, trying to top the fuel level off even though the filling station pump handle has shut it self off.
