Take a very close look at the slip joint on steering shaft. Very common to have a little play there.
A 1/16” play Is like an 1” when out on a 13” wheel.
I shimmed mine. Others buy a 200$ oem shaft. Others do 600$ custom u joint style.
yup, buts its just one of the over looked points that induce steering slop. best to do a complete inspection from wheel bearings to steering wheel. a little here, a little there , they add up and before you know it your ex wanders like a drunken sailor
I cut off piece of stainless screw type hose clamp.
Bent it to match the curve of the star then bent the stick out to about 90’ and tapped it in with a small hammer. Then took the rest of the stick out and folded it back up the upper part of the shaft. Secured with another hose clamp.
Sprayed it all with fluid film so it doesn’t rust. Rubber donut does not fit up over it now.
Took up all slop. not too tight. I can still remove the shaft from gear box and push it up and down when I swapped gear box last year. Still functions as oem safety device.
