Looking to find out more on a E4OD or something else that bolts straight up that might be better... Rebuild or buy a new one? Let me know what I should do with my trans
they can be rebuilt, there are some good rebuilders out there or you can do it your self if you have the skills
other thing is a ZF manual trans but that means you might need a donor truck for some parts
If you were closer to Dallas I'd give you the name of the shop that rebuilt mine. Unless you are towing competitively or professionally, a good auto trans builder can do what you need. You will want to upgrade your torque convert as it failing is one of the biggest contributor to failed transmissions. That and a lack of fluid cooling.

Hi - just joined having bought a ‘96 f350. I’m in the DFW area, can you share the name of the shop you used? I want to baseline the tranny and am looking for a good shop. Was thinking of Bare Knuckle diesel in Haslet. Thanks
Diesel Dynamics is out there toward Fort Worth, never used them but they were always at the drags in a 7.3
Used some joint in Mansfield for a part for my 6.4 that related to the auto 4x4, they had it in stock and were very nice.
Agreed on the converter, spend your money there. A guy on here just rebuilt his on his own and had never been in a trans in his life. Consider it, I am sure Queasy up in OK has a spare E4OD he will sell you so you can build that on you own time.

Thanks, but I don’t think that I need a rebuild...I hope. It’s just that it shifts kind of hard and the transfer case is very stiff in fact it seems the lever binds up. After putting in neutral, it grinders gears trying to shift to 4H and 4L. I’m thinking maybe the linkage is not aligned? Anyway, I just want a shop to check it out and do a fluid change for a base line. The PO did not drive it much so probably just needs some useage.

I used Lewisville Transmission (972)221-2345 to rebuild mine
My transmission already had a bunch of upgrades installed by a local DIYer but he installed the 2nd gear clutch stack backwards so it failed. He wouldn't return my calls so I moved on. Lewisville Transmission kept me updated and showed me what was wrong. It has been rock solid since then.

The trans shifts hard?
T-case bind up is common as I understand, start shooting Kroil or something on the linkage. Force nothing. Are you in neutral or park when you go from 2Hi or 4Hi to 4low?
You can do fluid change easy, I would just use some cheapo Walmart stuff and get the thing clean inside. Then switch to a quality syn.

Well not hard but it certainly does not shift smoothly..then again not sure if this is normal for this vintage truck. As far as the transfer case is concerned, yes always in neutral, the light was also not syncing with the gears so I haven't tried again. I'll soak the linkage and see if it helps. Although I am a little gun shy to try again since it was difficult to get things squared away by the PO after we tried to get the truck into 4H and 4L.
