ABS?
My brakes have been acting weird in that I push on the pedal and sometimes they act fine and other times they they start pulsing and rattling and require far more effort to stop. The ABS light comes on and turns off intermittently. Weather doesn't seem to have any bearing of if/when they act up. Truck is an 01 4x4 4.0. I'm wondering if and which fuse may turn off the abs system. Since this is my first vehicle with abs I'm really not concerned about a working abs system.

OK, it solved the ABS coming on every time you hit the brakes. But WHY was that happening? Check your rear brakes for a fluid leak. That will cause a wheel lockup, triggering the ABS. If you are not leaking anywhere, then I'd give a couple of "test stops" with both feet on the pedal to make sure I had all 4 wheels and no surprises.
You can drive millions of miles without ABS, so I wouldn't even mess with it once you clear any other braking issue, especially leaks.
