engine problem

I am having a problem with my 1990 f150 with a 302. When I go to start the truck it fires right up but as soon as I let the key from the start position to the run position it quits. I took it to my local garage but they are having no luck with it after 2 weeks. They have put a new ignition switch in, then they thought it was a problem with the ground, then they have replaced a few of the computer chips but still no luck?? Anybody have any ideas what could possibly be causing this??

Thanks

Todd

I think he mentioned that he had checked that but I'll check with him.

I don't have any ready answers for this since it has never happened to me, but you might check the following...

Maybe your fuel pump shut off switch has popped? Many cars and truck have a switch that is supposed to pop during an accident and cut off the fuel. Occasionally it will happen just for fun. Easy to check, free to fix, worth a look.

I wouldn't think the starter solenoid is involved in normal engine running mode, but something in your system is allowing either spark or gas get to the engine while you are in start and then cutting that out when you are in run, if I understood your symptoms. I am suspecting that there are two electricla paths to controll things, one used during the start, one during run. So I would look at other possible causes of the fuel pump or injectors being cut off. Maybe a sensor or bad wire from the switch assembly? Maybe a problem in the computer? Check the fuses and fusible links, usually easy to do and cheap, so why not.

Hope this helps, but I admit I don't have a lot here.
