2014 F150 3.7 liter -alternator life
I have 222K on my F150 about 70% highway miles with no RV or big electrical drain use . My local rebuilder pulled my original 200 amp Ford/Denso alternator apart today which he said I had maybe another 10-15k left on the brushes otherwise bearings and regulator/diodes fine . He cleaned it as new , installed all new parts anyway . He been doing for 35 years which he said he knows which parts sources are good for individual parts rather than kits that are hit or miss , He also said Denso no longer sells aftermarket alternator parts and he can only get Chinese parts so through trial and error he has found the better sources. He also said no alternator will last a long time if it is under constant load draw so having a good battery with perfect connections is vital to alternator life. He suggested not using an inverter much to power 120V tools as tends to burn out the regulator/diodes. Other bit he offered is the new one wire control tends to be more problematic than the 3 wire control where in the former the PCM reads frequency to message the regulator so propensity to get engine codes goes up on the one wire systems . Just count the number of tangs on the alternator control electrical junction on the alternator to know which you have .
