Angry blinkin lights!

O.K. I'm back with the light problem again! I think it is time to the damn truck! However it is my boat hauler and I need it so I must fix it. I do not want to take it to the dealer as they always want to reem you. It's a 95 F-150, 300, 5spd, XLT. the damn lights was blinking on and off and you could feel a little warmth around the head light switch when they started blinking. One night the running lights just quit working. A few days ago I got a chance to look at it. The plug in that plugs into the switch was burnt around one of the wire slots. Can you guess which one, Yah that's rite. It was the running lights wire. I wiggled it and the running lights came on. However, now that the lights are working again the head lights are blinking more often. I had replaced the switch once and it worked for a few months then it began blinking again. That's when the running lights quit working. The plug looked like it was cracked as well from the heat. The extra foo foo lights I was complaining about earlier that was making the truck look like a sissy has all been disconnected and in the process of removing. Can some one offer some solid advice for fixing my problem? Will the replacement of the plug be my best first start? Please help! It's a very cherry truck and I paln on keeping her but she needs to function properly.

If it was me, I would measure the current coming out of the switch. There is a circuit breaker inside the switch. Too much current and it opens. You could install a fuse protected relay so the switch only needs to supply enough current to operate the relay.

The relay contacts then supply current to the lights. Again, don't forget to fuse or circuit breaker protect everything. Good connections are critical when you start pulling around 8 amps to prevent heat build up.

My biggest problam is that I don't know jack ***** about current , testing circut protectors, relay switches or anything like. However, To save a trip to the dealer, I will have to learn I guess!

Hey
I just wanted to let you know that we found our problem.
The wiring harness had a hole rubbed in it where it passed through the body. (About 12 inches before the tailight pigtail)

This thing has driven us nuts!!!

Hope you find yours soon!
