Dana 60 swap

I finally found a dana 60 front for my truck, but it is an older 78-79 style axle. Does anyoe know what it takes to install it in a 91 F250? I have been told I'll have to trim the front crossmember or lift the truck, or both because of differential clearance. What about steering? should I use a 91 F350 pitman arm, the 78-79 tie rod and try to make either the 91 or old style drag link work? any other issues I should be aware of? Thanks for the advise. Also I may go ahead and install gears and limited slip while I'll there to, the axles are currently 4.10 and my truck is 3.55. I want 4.56's so I'll have to do both axles.

Don't know much about putting those axles into the newer trucks. I do know that the 78-79 has narrower perches than what your truck has...this is what would probably involve the most modification. Everything else will be easy and I doubt you'd have to trim your crossmember. To be honest, I might look at swapping your early D-60 for a latter one, just to make life easier on you. The 78-79's are the most desireable, and harder to find, which means you shouldn't have a problem swapping somebody straight across who has one of the newer ones.
