My 15 month old Motorcraft compressor has gotten noisy the last two times I had it out. Happens after about 30 min of use. Makes no noise when A/C is off and A/C clutch is disengaged. I pulled the belt off and the pulley is good and makes no sound when turned by hand. I started it with the clutch off and no noise. I used two screwdrivers and tried to pry the pulley off but it didn't happen, then it was to hot to mess with it since it will wait until the morning. BTW it is so hot that after six hours sitting in my garage after the drive, components are still very hot to the touch. Feel like temp is about 109 now. That is why I always open my hood after I use the truck so it won't heat soak and melt. Anyway, does the pulley come off with the screwdrivers or is it pressed on? If I can get it off what should I do to find out if the clutch or bearing is going out. Got the unit from Rockauto and checked the 24 mo. warranty and they rejected it because I didn't replace the drier and have no receipt etc. Any help or advice is appreciated as always. A/C is ice cold and I did the inline heater hose shut off mod about a month ago. Sandy
I was jesting about the snap ring. Just letting you know I didn't know to remove it when I tried removing the pulley. What am I going to find when I get in there and what to do is where I am now. BTW is your truck 2WD?
Have 93 four wheel and 95 two wheel as well as both in f250, when you get in there you should determine if the bearing is good, replace the clutch regardless.
So the clutch and bearing will be obvious when I open the compressor up? Thanks again. Is the truck you posted a pic of in the lift thread the two wheel?
Yes that's my pride an joy daily driver, never to be separated from companion.
I understand the relationship. Reason I asked is I am sure you noticed how close the camber bushing is to the knuckle. My 1 1/2" spacers caused me to not be able to adjust the camber enough to get into spec because of the knuckle. I shaved just a little off the knuckle to help relieve it just a tad. Still out of spec a little but I like the level. The driver side is not like that on my 91 just the passenger side. Sandy
