Question Fuel Injection Identity

I have a 1988 Ford E-150 with a 302. My Haynes manual tells me that I can't retrieve the trouble codes on certain type fuel injection systems. How can I tell what type Fuel Injection I have (EEC-V, EEC-IV, etc....)? I don't want to buy an expensive diagnostic tool if I can retrieve the codes using the check engine light.

You have EEC-IV. The codes can be read with either the check engine light or an analog volt meter - you don't need a code reader.

Although it is nice to have a code reader. I got tired of counting MIL lamp flashes so I bought a 30 dollar code reader from Kragens. Works great.

Thanks. I was worried I was going to have to pay 600 dollars or more for a code reader.
