Wiring cleanup

Hey all
I've got myself into a fun project here, I have two cab and Chassis trucks. One is a 76 with roasted drive line and tired 390. The other is an 86 with a rebuilt 6.9, t19. decent drive line but rotted can. I'm sure you can guess what I'm doing.
So far I've stripped down the 86 and threw that old rusty cab in the garbage. The 76 cab will go into the 86 frame with a flat deck then I'll call it a day.
Now down to my problem. The 6.9 has had a lifetime of people splicing and cutting and ruining the wiring harness I'd like to clean it all up right down to absolute basics.
What all electrical components does this bad girl need aside from power, ignition feed from the cab and ground?
Could get away with the starting charging system, glow plugs and whatever is required for fuel?

Hopefully you all can help.
For you Instagram savy folks I'm posting progress as I can
@artybuilds

Thanks!

I believe the only thing the 6.9l IDI needs is +12V IGNition for the Fuel Shut-off Solenoid on the IP. That and switched +12V for the GPs.

Sounds basic enough for me. Do these 6.9 have a high idle circuit?

cold idle and cold advance, depending where you are may not even be needed, never needed GP in a 6.9 in South Texas except 4 or 5 days out of the year.

DOH! Forgot that

FWIW, I have GPs in my truck that finally work right on a manual switch and it makes starting much easier. Even here in OK (which isn't as hot as S. TX of course).

at least you folks have changes in seasons, but your summers are as hot as ours just without the Humidity I guess, I run 12 volt plugs in my 93 7.3 and first thing in the morning I will hit the switch for no more than 3 seconds and never have to touch them the rest of the day .. think I have Autolite in there right now been at least 8 years since I changed one.. I'd have to go pull one to see what I did... getting old and starting to have CRS pretty bad. some days better than others

In stock form, it needs electricity for :
-Battery + for alternator
-Starter
-Glow plugs
-Fuel shutoff solenoid
-Cold advance and associated switch
-Cold idle and associated switch
-plus whatever the chassis needs for headlights, heater blower, etc.

Cold idle and cold advance are nice to have below 40 degrees F, but you can do without.

This is a good read, if you get the chance: http://www.stanadyne.com/dealerporta...lletin/108.pdf

Basically, you can very easily convert our injection pumps to require no electricity whatsoever, meaning that, theoretically, after starting the engine you could drive from New York to California with no battery, no alternator, no electricity at all.
