Newbie Question

About to trade in a 2014 Cummins for a 2019 Super Duty. The Ford seems to be a smoother drive which will be nicer for day to day driving and doesnt seem to have the throttle lag that I experienced with the Dodge, big step for me as prior to the cummins I had a hemi and before that it was two jeeps. With the Dodge I was hesitant to do ANYTHING to the suspension given stories I heard about weak front ends and I didnt want to risk the warranty (had warranty work on the front end at 90,000km on the dodge). My questions:

1. The Super Duty seems to have more rake then the dodge so I would be more inclined to want a leveling kit at the minimum; is there ever any long term issues with the Ford's by doing these slight adjustments? Any warranty issues here? What is the recommended leveling kit?
2. If I do put in a leveling kit would a 10-11,000 pound trailer on the hitch be enough to create sag? I dont want my headlights shining high when I am pulling the travel trailer.
3. I understand humans are more inclined to complain about things then praise these days so you read more stuff on the internet that is bad then good. The internet was rampant about Dodge's having weak front ends and ****ty transmissions (I upgraded to the Aisin transmission in my dodge for this reason); what are common issues in the current run of Ford Super Duty's?

Thanks in advance

Snow Plow Prep

Look for one with the snow plow prep kit from the factory. You will not need to mess with an after market leveling kit.

I went from a 2012 deleted Ram to an 18 F350 SRW. I have a 12k lbs travel trailer and no levelling kit. When I hook up the trailer, I sit level with my weight distribution hitch. I believe it’s about 1000lbs tongue weight. If you want to sit level while towing, you could always add airbags to bring your rear end up while towing. Since my Ram was deleted, I had no real turbo lag so I can’t comment on how the ford will compare. To me, there is a lot of turbo lag but comparing a deleted truck to a stock truck is apples and oranges.

As as far as ford concerns or things to watch out for, there are electrical connectors on the frame rails under the box of the truck that you have to add dielectric grease to. These connectors are not water tight and are known to corrode causing weird electrical issues. Also remove the 7pin trailer plug behind the bumper and add dielectric grease to that as well as it can cause a lot of warning codes. This simple preventative maintenance will save you dealer visits down the road.

You should also also look for leaks after a heavy rainfall. Some people have reported having a wet floor and water under the door sill plates. The door sill plates just pop off so it’s easy to check. All the reported leaks have been covered by warranty so it’s not a big deal.

If your infotainment screen on your instrument cluster defaults to the towing screen at start up, just select no active trailer and it will default to your last used screen. That’s a common thread for new owners.

Congrats on your our new purchase. What model did you get?

Just an XLT with some nice options. http://www.windowsticker.forddirect....8W3BT5KEF26401 I am not a fan of leather (have it in my wifes Subaru and that is enough for me) and dont really need, or use, all the bells and whistles so it seemed like the XLT was the route to take. My Dodge had the upgraded Alpine Stereo system but if the stock sound in the XLT sucks I can add after market speakers (dont think that will be a problem when all I listen to is podcasts). Oddly enough the only option missing on the XLT that was in my dodge that I will miss was the stock universal garage door opener as that isnt stock on the XLT.
