I've had two hybrids, over 100k on each of them, and exactly zero glitches. And even if there was one, the systems are independent - the battery going out or a propulsion motor dying literally can't leave you stranded.
I'm not sure what your point is. Buy one, or don't... I don't think anybody is going to mandate that you buy a hybrid version. It's sort of like complaining that they offer a color you don't like, when they have a dozen others that you do like. You have a choice, and your choice is to complain that there are choices?
Another crybaby thread, geez it's gettin old.
Could've just made a thread about how the CEO said the bronco will also be available as a hybrid... which means the main choices won't be a hybrid. Also like the article states, no surprise because FORD has talked about having all hybrid options sooner rather than later.
353,000 miles on my 2007 Escape. The tranny began to slip. Engine and Hybrid system was flawless!
Dang. Can't complain about that - the miles or the engine and hybrid system. I'd be tempted to throw in another transmission just to see how far it would go.
People love to tell others what they're allowed to do. The percentage of the population without an automobile is growing. Put the two together and you get: people who don't even own a vehicle are increasingly pushing for the requirement or exclusion of automobile features.
You can pretend it's a chicken little hyperbole, but the math disagrees with you.

A manufacturer offering a hybrid version has zero causative effect on the legislation. It's use of technology, plain and simple.
That said, the days of the internal combustion engine are numbered. You can get onboard with it... or you can scream at the sky.
You'll take a chip under your skin too. No screaming.

Ford is no longer a car company. They are a transportation company. Check the press releases on that over the last few years.
Their goal long term is to lease you an electric vehicle on an as-needed basis. That will replace car ownership.
I'm not on board. Call it screaming, but that's inaccurate.
