Body swap
Ok so i live in northern vt and my 02 f450 body is shot. Frame and motor are excellent and i rebuilt tranny last summer. My dad grabbed an 01 f250 body from florida and brought it to me last winter. But when i search car-part they don't interchange. Can someone please let me know what the diferance is. If it's some minor difference i can adjust in the shop or a huge change that will take days to modify that i won't figure out till the body is half mounted? Help please
My truck is :
02 4x4 f450 extracab with a 7.3 and dump bed
Body is from
01 4x4 f250 extracab with 5.3 and who cares
I realize i will have to swap all harnesses and other peripherals.but my only other portion is to scrap my 450 that i love, or search out an 02 body and that would suck
Firewall of 04 with 6.0

I had to:
> Cut the holes out (in the illustration) of the Diesel cab and cut a similar hole in the gas cab, then pop rivet the cut piece into place. I used a body seam sealer around the work, then painted (primer, base coat) over it on both sides.
> The bracket that holds the coolant reservoir in place on the cowl - that needs to be added to the gas cab. Just drill out the spot welds, then either have someone good with a torch or wire welder fit it to the gas cab. Then, seam seal it, paint.
That's the fitment part of the swap.
Other things to look out for:
> Check all electrical before you start. Then you'll know if you damaged something during the swap. Write down things in a notebook.
> DO NOT yank, tug or abuse any wiring anywhere! Be very careful when disconnecting them. I had some help, he decided the Diesel harness was scrap, so yanked on it as we did the swap. I tell you this because I have multiple issues today - my truck still isn't running, the Diesel truck ran perfectly.. Had to buy a new engine harness ($480). I need to rebuild the gauge cluster ($120), replace the turn signal indicator ($60) for the second time and more.
> When you remove the dash assembly, get two others to help (one inside, one outside). I weighs about 100 lbs. I estimate. It's bulky and difficult to handle. Remove the seats before swapping. Also, if you keep the steering assembly on, remove the turn signal indicator - prone to damage otherwise.
> Label the loom going to the back of the cab - helps to figure things out later.
It's not too bad, if you be careful.
