I’ve got a 95’ F150 with 4.9L. I’ve owned it for about a year. This truck seems to have good days and bad days. Some days it starts right up, some times it will just turn over but won’t crank. I’m at a loss with where to start looking for issues. I suspect something electrical since it’s all intermittent issue. Has anyone else dealt with an issue like this?
It is about to hit 300k miles. I’m gonna price some parts to throw at it I guess. I wasn’t sure how to best articulate the symptoms. I guess turn over/crank would be the rotation of the engine and firing or starting would be a running engine?
Running is running without outside assistance.
Turning over and cranking are the same thing - without running.
Somewhere in between is "trying to start - but won't run"
Have you either used a paper clip to pull codes or done it with a code reader? To see if it has any stored codes that may give you pointers? You may not have a check engine light showing but the computer will still store codes.
Nice. I’ll probably just buy the scanner. I didn’t realize that was an option. That will make diagnostics much easier. Thanks for the help everyone. I tried google before posting on here but didn’t find any of this information. Now I have suspected the ignition control module to be bad since it is intermittently running when it wants, thanks to Subford. I figured since the only intermittent problem is running and nothing else I narrowed it to the ICM instead of PMC. I did jump the gun and bought one so I’ll plug it in and see.
