The front passenger side bearing spindle on my 91 F150 (rear wheel drive) looks pretty pitted up. I am already planning on replacing bearings but I'd rather not have them get eaten alive buy a pitted surface.
Is there an effective way to repair a pitted spindle that doesn't involve removing the whole knuckle from the truck? I have heard of re-sleeving a spindle but I have no idea how to do this or if its a good idea.
I'll post a picture or two of the spindle in question when I have a chance,
Before taking them apart (again) I drove it for about 10 miles at highway speed and 5 or so miles stop and go then measured the bearing temperatures with a infrared thermo gun.
All bearings were about 110 F except for the front passenger side which was about 137 F so its hotter but I dunno if its hot enough to worry over.
Spindles look good in my opinion. I think the area you're concerned about is the unfinished area, where the bearings do not ride.
To drive races in or out I use a brass drift. But anything to get the old out without hurting the hub itself will work, then use your race drivers for install. It's not too bad a job.
