So the recently I was setting my distributor/timing on my 302. Everything in the cluster at the time was working. The following day I turned the truck over to move it & noticed Only my Fuel & Voltmeter gauges were working (Factory tach not working either).
I verified all wires were solid, not blown fuses & performed continuity test on those non-working gauges & got no reading on them. Is there a relay somewhere between the cluster & the wiring harness off the fire wall in the engine bay that could cause no continuity to register? Does the key in the ignition need to be turned forward when performing continuity? Can't tell if the cluster just went dead or not.
So only your temp gauge is not working? Find the wire to the temp sensor. With the key in run, engine off, take the wire off the sensor and ground it to a good clean ground on the engine somewhere while someone is watching the gauge with the key in run. It should move full scale high or low. Then take the wire off the ground and let it hang in the air, the gauge should swing full scale the opposite direction. If it passes this test, the wiring and the gauge are good, there is something wrong with the temp sensor/sender.

Fuel: Works
Voltmeter: Works
Temp: Dead
Oil: Dead
Tach: Dead
Back light to gauge cluster works

Then you need to do as DaveF posted to make sure the wiring from senders to gauge are good for the oil & temp and we can go from there.
Lets get them working before looking into the tach.
