Brake lights not working

Need a little help guys. I have an 87 idi 6.9 turbo. Owned it for roughly 1,1/2 years. I noticed my brakes lights were not working just recently. My turn signals work fine and i have no voltage at the brake pedal switch? Is the problem likely at the multi funcrion switch? Sad to say Im an electrician however I do not deal with automotive electrical ever. Please if anyone have any suggestions?

Brakes are always hot so I would start with fuses, which I'm sure you already checked. After that I would check the fuseable links. They're like a bump in the wire about as big around as a pencil. Normally between the battery and firewall on the passenger side.

Check for power on both sides. If any of them aren't passing power then cut them out and replace them with the right size according to what gauge the wire is.

If you need a quick fix find an always hot or key on hot empty slot in your fuse box and run a fuseable link, then a wire to the brake switch. 20amp fuse size

yeper 100% agree... Fuse #1 since he ain't got no power on the switch which is connected to the Hazard flasher, Hazards probably don't work either because they all on same circuit..

Yeah I checked the fuses. But I will look in the engine bay at the wiring. I just assumed that if it was a fuse or a problem leading to the firewall I would have lost my turn signals also. Thanks, that gives me a couple more areas to investigate.

one of the 80's f250 I had actually burned the plastic fuse box housing where Fuse #1 plugged in, a previous owner had installed a 40A fuse instead of 15A and apparently high resistance there was the cause, that truck also no longer had fuse links. I did eventually have to replace the Turn signal/Hazard switch for other reasons.
