Ok here is a weird one. I searched through the older posts looking for something like this but came up with nothing.
36000 miles on a 2016 platinum F350 6.7L Diesel. About 2 weeks ago I got a battery warning light that came on. I checked for codes on my Code reader. nothing registered. swung into my local Auto mechanic shop and had them test both batteries. both batteries tested good. scheduled time with the Local Dealer to see what they could see and alternator and batteries tested good. Dealership said they couldn't find anything wrong. but the battery light is still on. They said it may be something wrong with the cluster. giving a false warning. this Truck has not been abused in anyway. I pull a 28 foot camper relatively short distances with it. I was about to leave on a trip and the Dealership told me there is nothing wrong so I loaded up and am currently on the Road. In the back of my mind I keep waiting for something to fail and leaving me and family stranded.
Has anyone ran into this before.
I've always driven GM products and recently converted to Ford. love the Truck so far, but not happy with the diagnosis of this issue from the Dealership...
Bench test the alternator. It may not be producing the correct voltage.
For the batteries, they could be on their way out but you have to test them independly and disconnected so as not draw any power from the other battery.
Click on the link above. I actually had a 2016 F-250 6.7 with this exact same concern as described in the video above. The truck actually arrived in my hands after it had just the alternator replaced at another shop in attempt to repair the battery light remaining on. Like in the video above, mine also turned out to be the sense wire (the wire that senses 12 volts to turn the battery light off on the instrument cluster) inside that harness loom.
Very timely M-chan on that issue. Think I will just have a look at mine as a preventative measure.
That harness contains the battery positive and negative cables to both batteries, as well as the wiring to the starter and alternator along with the A/C compressor and A/C pressure transducer. For what it's worth I just repaired an inoperative an A/C inoperative concern about two weeks ago, that had one of the pressure transducer circuits open due to "green death" found in that harness when I opened it up.

I have the constant battery light on now, however something preceded that. When i would drive in the rain or a puddle, my instrument cluster on my dash works go on and off. Only does it when it's wet. Now the shop changed the alternator, but I still have the battery light. Hasn't rained lately so I don't know if the cluster issue is still active.

Check the resistor on the back of the cluster, just went through this issue on a 2000 450 and the 470 ohm resistor on the back of the cluster went bad, might be worth checking out

This doesn’t apply to any truck built after 2008, all the alternators are smart alternators and are controlled by the pcm, the pcm sends the alt the desired charge voltage and the alt sends the pcm the current status and load on the alternator. The cluster is told to light or turn off the battery light from the pcm over the CAN bus. After market alternators will also light the battery light.

My buddy has a 2000 F250 7.3. Same issue a year or so ago. Turned out to be a sensor wire in the dash that ran from the passenger side to the cluster. IIRC it was a bugger to get to.

don't say that... lie to us and tell us how easy it was for him to fix
