Question Broken Intake?

Hi,

I just got a 97 E-250 with a 5.4L. I am working on a no idle issue (runs great). While I was cleaning the IAC, I noticed that it appeared that the passenger rear corner of the intake looks to be broken off. The area is dry, no fluids around the area. Is this normal on these engines? I hesitate to ask since it looks obviously broke to me, but the left part is nicely rounded as from a mold, clean edges. It almost looks like it is the wrong intake.

I checked and there doesn't seem to be any air coming or going from those holes. Also, there is aluminum crust that leads me to believe that it has been uncovered for a long time. Could there be a cover missing?

As far as I know, this is the original intake on this engine. 197K miles, no signs of removal.

Thank you!

Your intake looks to be fine---that its not leaking any fluids or has an area that looks scorched from escaping gases says it's fine as it is. I forget why that area not covered by the intake exists but its completely normal.

IF you were to replace the intake I'd use nothing but OEM, ordered by using your VIN. Double check the heads to see if they're the "PI" versions that may or may not have been used in '97. While its by no means cheap should a replacement be made think of new injectors or at bare minimum new o-rings for them.

@JWA Thank you for clearing that up. Take care.
